To SEE in Peterhof

Peterhof is a former Summer Residence of Russian Royal family.

It was founded by Peter the Great in 1714 and on the 15th of august, 1723 was officially opened by the fisrt Russian Emperor. In different periods of time it was less or more important and used by our rulers but it didn't loose it's charming and beauty. In 1918 after the revolution the Royal residence was nationalized and opened for public as a museum.

At the time of the 2nd World war Peterhof was occupied by German troops and badly ruined. But in 1946 parks were already opened for the first visitors. The name of the residence could be translated from German (or Dutch) like the «Peter's court». The idea of the construction of this beautiful complex Peter I has got after visiting fascinating Versailles in France. And very often you can hear how people are calling Peterhof as the «Russian Versailles».

Visiting this museum complex located on the cost of Gulf of Finland you'll have a chance to compare it to Versailles and to agree or disagree with this prevalent opinion. There are amazing parks and gardens, over 150 fountains and 4 magnificent cascades. We can visit the Grand Palace in Peterhof or enjoy other 16 museums which are opened in Peterhof today.

Welcome to the Capital of Russian fountains!
