To See in Hermitage

The Hermitage is one of the most famous museums of the worlds.

It was founded be Catherine the Great in 1764 when she bought the first collection of 255 paintings in Berlin and brought it to Saint-Petersburg. Since 1852 it is opened for public. Today there are about 3 million items in the collection of the musem among them are paintings, statues and pieces of applied art. Ii is one of the largest and oldest museums of the world, including the largest collection of art in the world. 3,5 million visitors enjoy this museum every year. And you may be one of them. Our general tour includes 5 main buildings of the museum like the Winter Palace, the Small Hermitage, the Old Hermitage, the Hermitage theatre and the New Hermitage.

We'll see the beautiful state and private rooms of the Royal Winter palace, the famous and unique Peacock clock and Pavillion hall with the collection of Italians mosaics. The Western European Art collection includes European paintings, sculptures, applied art from the 13th to the 20th century and is on display in about 120 rooms on the first and second floor in the 4 buildings.

This collection includes paintings, sculptures as well as pieces of furniture, porcelain, silver wear, tapistries and weapons. Among them there are brilliant collections and real gems. For example, the best outside Holland Rembrandt's collection (26 paintings), Rubens (42 paintings), 2 paintings of Leonardo da Vinci (altogether ther are only 14 of them in the world), and the best from France in 52 rooms of the Winter Palace. The colletion of french art of the end of the 19th — beggining of the 20th centuries is of special interest, from imprssionists to Matisse (37 paintings) and Picasso (31 paintings).French painting of the 19th to early 20th centuries is represented by approximately 850 items.

For special order is the Diamond Room where you can the development of the jeweler's craft over the course of mankind's many centuries of history from the third millennium B.C. to the start of the 20th century. Experts say that if you take for a minute looking at each exhibit on display in the Hermitage, you will need 11 years to inspect all of them.
